Job Description

The Research Operations Lead is responsible for developing, in conjunction with the Vice President and Executive Vice President of Mandiant Intelligence, the definition of the Mandiant Research Team division and managing of research operations. He/she assists in ensuring the division is effectively resourced and manages relationships within the company to support Mandiant production effort. The person supervises the research efforts worldwide and works in close coordination with Mandiant Intelligence Lead. He/she works to identify resource requirements necessary to satisfy the collection plan, accepts tasking, manages the research effort and supervises the liaison between individual analysts and researchers to ensure efficient satisfaction of analytical requirements. 

What You Will Do:

  • Managing and leading Mandiant Research Teams
  • Developing, submitting, managing and reporting on a budget to GI VP and EVP applicable to Mandiant Research Team
  • Interfaces directly with PM, Analysis, Services, Consulting, Sales teams on all projects and efforts that involve Research
  • Provides leadership, management and oversight for all collection efforts of Research Teams within Mandiant Research Team
  • Identification, recruitment, and retention of talent to accomplish the mission of Mandiant Research Team
  • Accountable for hiring and growing the practice or geography, as well as retaining existing staff and ensuring career development for their team
  • Participates with other senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives
  • Development of policies and guidance for the division
  • Development of employee evaluation standards, reporting matrix, and supervise implementation
  • Implement employee evaluation standards and supervise the process ensuring 100% completion according to policy guidance, enable and monitor division progress and performance
  • Implement the collection plan, task team leads, mentor individual researchers for collection, and supervise results
  • Perform site visits at all remote employee locations according to standard operating procedures
  • Develop reports for the GI VP and SVP according to standard operating procedures
  • Enforce adherence to Mandiant Research Team policies, guidance, and best practices
  • Maintain accountability of all team assets and provide maintenance reports
  • Build and maintain targets that allow for the efficient and accurate collection of information of threat intelligence value in order to satisfy research requirements
  • Protect proprietary company and personal information from disclosure

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 10+ years of work experience in a threat intelligence leadership role
  • Extensive people management skills, including multiple levels of managers and individual contributors
  • Expert at scoping new opportunities and possesses solid business understanding
  • Ability to manage a large office, area or functional business line
  • Understanding of computer intrusions, threat finance, money laundering / fraud / eCrime, nation state threat activities
  • Expert knowledge of current events and international politics.
  • Can translate client requirements into Mandiant Intelligence offering and builds customer solutions leveraging Mandiant Intelligence
  • In-depth understanding of online operational security methods and Information Security best practices
  • Ability to express complex technical and non-technical concepts verbally, graphically, and in writing
  • Fluent knowledge of English language, speaking and writing skills in at least one of languages in EMEA (Russian language is a preference)
  • Expert collection and research skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in intelligence studies, security studies, computer science, information technology, or other degree which includes a formal intelligence studies or research component
  • Experience with static and dynamic malware analysis, reverse engineering
  • Ability to think critically and properly qualify analytic assessments
  • Ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive data
  • Experience conducting analysis of electronic media, packet capture, log data, and network devices in support of intrusion analysis or enterprise level information security operations
