The Technical Manager is the technical lead on large, complex deals, delivering high-end services, improving our industry reputation, and up-leveling consultants, deliverables, and services. This individual will drive the technical relationship with our customers and partners by providing advanced architecture, implementation and operational support.
How You'll Make an ImpactThought Leadership:Provide thought leadership, through participation in industry groups, delivering talks, writing technical and industry specific blogs, vulnerability research, industry PR interviews, and/or contributing to security publicationsTrack and monitor current happenings within the security industry relative to the application security space.Contribute to internal team building, knowledge transfer, and training activities within the Strategic Consulting team.Improve methodologies, tooling, reporting and other processes to improve and enhance inter- and intra-team efficiency, Assist in the development and roll-out of new Strategic Consulting methods and tools.Work across LOB to improve outcomes for customers by increasing cross-business offerings and servicesWork with customers to help them articulate and document their business requirements/use cases and understand how those requirements translate into Application Security features and functionality.Assist with development of Application Security engagement plans/roadmaps for customers which will enable them to execute upon strategies.Rationalize different security solutions against requirements, risk, and constraints.Undertake Application Security methodologies/techniques and the interpretation/application of their output in the definition of Security Architectures.Provide oversight on engagements (pending number of engagements where assigned as primary consultant).Responsible for 2-6 projects simultaneously (including leadership and knowledge of project and client details).Able to deliver and lead other consultants in complex projects.Facilitate workshops and assessments in front of large audiences based on experience and knowledge in specific technologies/practices.Technical Delivery:Perform vulnerability assessment, penetration testing and secure code review activitiesWrite deliverables and daily status updates during client engagementsProvide tactical and strategic guidance and detailed remediation advice aimed at helping clients achieve strong security posturesMaintain relationships with clients and provide them with information about application security and secure development lifecycle topicsTrack and monitor current and trending practices in software engineering, DevOps and application securityObtain and evolve technical expertise, certifications and industry credentials through formal and informal training and other educational initiativesContribute content to the Optiv blog and present on security in webinars and at conferencesProvide assistance for problematic engagements through triage and recovery planningIdentify and recommend improvements in Optiv’s methodologies and internal processes and provide input and support for updating consulting tools, techniques and knowledgebaseEngage in all phases of Red Team operations including reconnaissance, exploitation, lateral movementHave strong focus on IoT and Embedded Device Testing (cloud, mobile, API, hardware, network, firmware, and RF)Perform security assessments in Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google)Use and customize commercial and open-source security assessment toolsModify and use payloads to avoid common detection methodsDeploy, configure, and manage infrastructure to support Offensive operationsUse computer network, application, database, Cloud, and web exploitation techniquesConduct Active Directory and enterprise network exploitationLeverage OPSEC techniques including network traffic monitoring, post-exploitation activities, and payloads to blend in with target environmentsRun Web Application and API debugging and analysisHave familiarity with reverse engineering tools, debuggers, and dynamic analysis techniques.Have an understanding of application protocols, development, and common attack vectors.Continually work to improve the knowledge and capabilities of yourself & the team
Requirements/QualificationsPractical experience in an application security role with manual testingPrevious job experience in an information security consulting services roleAbility to travel 40-50% of the time to client sitesUnderstanding of software security architecture and designAbility to work with diverse and dynamic teamsSuccessful implementation of application testing methodologies for web applications and APIsAble to assess mobile applications on the IOS and Android PlatformsAble to assist in setting the strategic direction of the practice based on experience and industry backgroundCollege degree or related work experience. BA/BS degree preferred in computer science, engineering, math, statistics, or information systemsCertifications such as OSCP, OSCE, CREST CRT, GIAC (GXPN, GWAPT, GPEN, GMOB) others are highly desiredPrior consulting and/or enterprise experience is a plusExperience in application penetration testing (Web, Mobile, thick client, IoT) with tools such as but not limited to...Kali Linux, Burpsuite, Ghidra, IDA Pro, Metasploit, Netsparker, Acunetix, Nessus, etc.Have knowledge and experience in OWASP Top 10Application development or software engineering experienceScripting or development experience with Python, bash, Powershell, Perl, C, C++, Java, C#, etc.Excellent understanding of security by design principles and architecture level security conceptsGood cyber security capabilities including application protocols, development, and common attack vectors.Familiarity with reverse engineering tools, debuggers, and dynamic analysis techniquesAbility to script advanced attacksAbility to 'fuzz' applications and protocols for new vulnerabilities and able to fully exploit newly discovered vulnerabilitiesAbility to discover advanced logic flaws and multiple step architectural errorsExperience and knowledge of penetration testing methodologies and toolsUp to date knowledge of current and emerging security threats and techniques for exploiting security vulnerabilitiesIf you are seeking a culture that supports growth, fosters success and moves the industry forward, find your place at Optiv!
