The Safety & Security Manager plans, organizes, and manages programs that ensure staff, patron and contractor safety and security; ensures compliance with security, safety, health, and environmental regulations, policies and procedures.


Essential Functions
  • Plans, organizes, administers, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff and contractors.
  • Recommends selection of staff; trains staff and provides for their professional development; administers discipline as required.
  • Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the department; assists with the preparation and administration of assigned budget(s).
  • Contributes to the overall quality of service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates scheduling of periodic testing and repairs of building life safety and security systems.
  • Manages security guard services for Library facilities; coordinates coverage and resolve issues Branch Managers and Library management; performs periodic site visits to Branches to observe security guard performance.
  • Develops and makes presentations on safety and security related topics.
  • Ensures periodic evacuation drills are scheduled and conducted; assists Branch Managers and Safety Committee Members with establishing evacuation procedures.
  • Coordinates with and ensures outside contractors and vendors are complying with applicable OSHA, local, state, and federal laws and regulations while working on Library property.
  • Conducts scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and grounds to identify and document hazards/risks and provides recommendations for corrective action.
  • Ensures Library safety policies, procedures and practices are in compliance with applicable OSHA, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Responds to and resolves inquiries and complaints.
  • Directs the conduct of and conducts analytical studies; develops and reviews reports of findings, alternatives and recommendations; directs the maintenance of accurate records and files.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains OSHA, local, state and federal mandated and other safety and security related programs, plans, procedures, and associated documentation.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the Library by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. 

  • Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, or a related field; AND five (5) years of professional experience in developing and managing an organizational safety and security programs; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
  • Driver's License

  • Compensation starts at $54K per year and goes up based on previous work experience.
