We’re Simply Business

We insure small businesses and enable big dreams – not just for our customers, but for our people and communities too. With over 850,000 active insurance policies, we protect builders, bakers, landlords, and more than 1,000 other trades.

We harness cutting-edge data ability, believe in experimentation, and build our own technology to deliver better experiences for our customers and employees. This means we’re as much a technology company as one that sells insurance. We build, we fail, we learn, we improve. We’re a B Corp too, which recognises our strong track record of having a positive impact on people, society and the environment.

If Simply Business sounds like the kind of place you’ll thrive, we’d love to hear from you

We are looking for a Cyber Security Apprentice to help protect us from threat actors who try and make it past our cyber defences. This is a hands-on technical position where you will play an important role in the day to day operations and development of our Security Operations Centre (SOC).

You’ll need a strong drive and willingness for learning and growth. You will be in a rapidly evolving environment that will bring new challenges and opportunities for growth on a regular basis and be empowered to develop and explore your unique passions in Cyber Security.

As well as being the face of InfoSec to the rest of the business, you will address security issues as an enabler, not a blocker, by working proactively with all teams and baking security into our Tech. This also means being able to articulate the “why” of what we do to technical and non-technical colleagues. You will contribute to establishing a security culture throughout the business, and enjoy autonomy and flexibility to experiment on ideas that could help improve InfoSec as a whole.

Here is what you will be doing:
  •   Monitoring our networks to spot both active and emerging threats
  •   Monitoring our endpoints to combat malicious activity
  •   Identify anomalous behaviour and triage incidents and alerts accordingly
  •   Work directly with a team of Cyber Security Analysts and Engineers to investigate issues and escalate incidents
  •   Facilitate Vulnerability Management
  •   Participate in incident response, collaborating within the business to see security incidents through their full lifecycle
  •   Help us to develop and tune our security tools to make our SOC more efficient
  •   Research, evaluate and assess emerging cybersecurity threats, trends, tools and capabilities

  • We are looking for someone who has:
  • Demonstrable passion for Cyber Security
  • Good understanding of security fundamentals
  • Understanding of computer networks and their core components
  • Willingness to learn and ability to demonstrate it through previous roles or academic study
  • Time management skills, to manage your apprenticeship work alongside your role
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical and technical people
  • Knowledge of Information Security issues and trends
  • Knowledge of Cloud Technologies

  • Nice to have skills:
  • Experience with endpoint protection tools such as Anti-Virus, EDR and host based IDS
  • Experience with responding to incidents or working in a high-pressured operational environment
  • Understanding of Vulnerability Management and/or patching processes and tooling
  • Experience working in a support role or a client-facing role within Information Technology
  • Coding / Scripting experience
  • Knowledge of security models and frameworks such as the Cyber Kill Chain and MITRE ATT&CK
  • Experience of working with Cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience with multiple of the following Operating Systems: Linux, Windows & macOS
  • Our culture is inclusive and diverse

We Embrace Individuality We value what’s important to each and every SBer. Whether that be providing access to cutting edge wellbeing support, or being part of one of our many diversity networks and communities.  We also take personal development seriously - we’re all about enabling big dreams.

We Trust Who We Hire We empower SBers with choice and flexibility to make the right decisions based on the needs of their roles and we’ve been working this way long before Covid19.
There’s no one-size-fits all solution when it comes to how often we get together in person, so all of our people and teams find the rhythm that suits them best when it comes to working from home or hub.

We’re innovative We've created a place for people to be curious, experience new things, and bring unique ideas to the table. If you want to learn how we do all this - head over to our Careers page where you’ll see us walk the talk

We all have a part to play – to learn more, to do more and to go further – in building this new reality that’ll be befitting of the diversity of the customers we serve. At Simply Business, we’re all in.
