You will play a critical role in developing and implementing a world class information security programme to protect WPP Group from cyber threats. This is an essential role, supporting WPP IT to deliver its purpose to design, build, run and transform all current and future IT services which underpin the One WPP strategy.


The Malware Analyst is responsible for providing in-depth analysis and intelligence on the malicious software, tools and methods used in a cyber-attack.


The role will look to analyse and investigate malicious and/or suspicious code with a view to protecting the estate by predicting the intended behaviour of the code and helping to develop methods of identification.


The role holder will conduct detailed forensic analysis on platforms and logs as part of the incident response teams activities.


What you'll be doing:



  • Build and maintain a safe analysis environment

  • Identify, investigate and analyse various forms of malware and their methods of delivery.

  • Analysis of attacks across the estate to understand deployment, success criteria and applicable defences to protect against future or follow-up attacks.

  • Ability to transpose findings into recommendations, working with the wider Cyber Security team to refine or implement new security controls where needed.

  • Providing support to the Security Incident Response team on mitigation and recovery activities.

  • Provide digital forensic examination services


What you'll need:


Qualification Requirements (Desirable)



  • Certifications in security (i.e. GIAC GREM, DFE, CISSP, CEPT) desirable but not essential

  • Degree or equivalent desirable but not essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge about vulnerability and security policies such as ISO standards


Skills / Experience Requirements



  • Strong knowledge of high level, middle level and assembly level programming languages.

  • Experience in reverse engineering malicious/suspicious code.

  • Strong understanding of programme analysis tools, supporting disassembly, debugging, packing/unpacking, binary/code analysis, etc.

  • Strong understanding of malicious software types (i.e. adware, bots, ransomware, worms).

  • Experience in malware classification by severity, behaviours, threats and commonalities.

  • Experience of log analysis

  • Experience of digital forensic analysis

  • Strong understanding of offensive and defensive tools and techniques.

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals.

  • Ability to produce reports, alerts and other supporting documentation for the wider Cyber Security team.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
