About the Security Team

Varo’s Security Engineering team’s mission is to help the organization conduct business in a secure manner. The team works hand-in-hand with engineers across the organization as we innovate in the banking industry. We practice the “DevSecOps” philosophy and build security automation early into the process of everyday engineering functions from software engineering, to cloud infrastructure, and IT. 

What you'll be doing
  • You will be joining an existing team of Security Engineers who are an integral part of our software engineering and general business organization.
  • You will be collaborating closely with peers within the Platform organization including the SRE team and IT team as well as the CISO office.
  • You are automation-focused, and collectively strive to build and maintain a rapid-feedback platform that enables our engineers to accomplish their own goals in a safe and secure manner, instead of creating friction.
  • You are passionate about building a collaborative DevSecOps culture across the engineering organization.
  • Influence and align the organization’s Security vision and strategy, while engaging your team to develop and deliver specific, multi-year roadmaps, programs, and projects. Ensure prioritization, resourcing, and timely delivery of this work within a changing business environment.

  • You'll bring the following required skills and experiences
  • Experience communicating the importance of security to a diverse range of stakeholders and promoting the adoption of security initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-team collaboration skills with a proven ability to navigate complex corporate environments and influence stakeholders and partners.
  • 3+ years of people management experience and experience managing remote teams.
  • Experience building and sustaining high-performing teams of engineers.
  • 5+ years of technical experience as an individual contributor security professional prior to management in security engineering, system, and network security, software security, and/or cloud security.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent in a related field with 3+ years of software industry experience (2+ years with an MS degree in a related field).
  • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, computer networking, routing, and switching), and experience leveraging defense in depth to defend critical network infrastructure and the applications and services which utilize the network.
  • Experience with attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures and supporting a security operations team and security engineers who hunt, detect, and respond to internal and external threats.
  • Experience integrating security tools into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with vulnerability/patch management and risk assessment of potential vulnerabilities across various endpoints and Varo written software.
  • Experience defining requirements, processes, and roadmaps for cloud security and other compute infrastructure.
  • Experience managing bug bounty programs and conducting penetration testing.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages. e.g. Bash, Python, Java, Javascript, Go, etc.
