The Platform team serves a critical role in providing a secure, stable, and performant platform to empower product and engineering to get their work done more efficiently.

We’re hiring a Security Engineer to level up our security initiatives and ensure that the Platform team continues to support our main mission of being the “go-to trusted place where science is communicated”.

You will:
  • Audit existing security position of our development platform and infrastructure and communicate with dev leadership when new issues are found
  • Level up the development teams approach to developing secure application code through training, tooling and other resources
  • Consult on solution reviews for other teams to provide confidence that the features we ship always consider security implications
  • Run regular internal audits to identify potential vulnerabilities
  • Maintain robust security observability to make the whole team aware of incidents

    • Within your first 30 days, you'll show us how you relate and build relationships by:
  • Getting to know your team and the wider engineering team through 1-1s.
  • Getting to know other departments and how they use our platform
  • Learning our SDLC by getting involved with current projects/bug fixes etc.

    • Within your first 60 days, you'll show us how you learn by:
  • Familiarizing yourself with the wider product and how our development platform supports the existing functionality.
  • Understanding how users interact with our product
  • Understanding the architecture of our existing services and supporting infrastructure.
  • Documenting your findings and initial recommendations into a health report of the current state of our approach to security that you can present to the team.

    • Within your first 90 days, you'll show us what you’ve got and put the foundation to work by:
  • Demonstrating a good working knowledge of the architecture of our existing infrastructure
  • Turning health report recommendations into decisions that have the buy-in from the team.
  • Working with our QA specialists to define a test approach to automate security checks.
  • Improving our approach to developing future services and product enhancements in relation to our approach to security.

    • Our ideal fit:
  • Prior experience working with Platform or Infrastructure teams
  • Prior experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and familiar with their well-architected framework
  • Prior experience running internal security audits and presenting findings that are digestible by those across the development department.
  • Experience in architecting and building application security on modern tech stacks (Node.js plus)
