Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC, Search’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. With a total of approximately 800 staff worldwide, Search implements projects from 54 offices in 34 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

Position Summary
The Global Affairs and Partnerships (GAP) team at Search for Common Ground (Search) is seeking an intern for Summer-Fall 2023 to provide research and administrative support to a global project focused on women, peace and security (WPS) and addressing gender-based violence (GBV), implemented across five countries (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uzbekistan, and Yemen) - and include a global Rapid Response Fund mechanism. The project provides specific funding and technical assistance to local women-led groups to grow and sustain local capacities for peacebuilding.

The Women, Peace, and Security Intern plays a critical role in program management and implementation of the global project through desk research and supporting the implementation across the five target countries as described below.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research related to US government and multilateral policies, legislation, and priorities on Women Peace and Security.
  • Assist with the regular updating of the project's gender analysis for the five target countries.
  • Monitoring and updating essential country-specific data.
  • Attend briefings, roundtables, hearings, and other relevant events and share notes within the organization;
  • Provide support on the Global Women,Peace and Security Rapid Response Fund.
  • Provide overall logistical and technical support for the global project.

  • Qualifications
  • Current student or recent graduate with a degree in International Relations, Conflict Studies, Development or a related area;
  • Written and spoken fluency in English;
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet Search Engines) 
  • Available for 32-40 hours per week

  • The ideal candidate will further exhibit:
  • A self-starting, enthusiastic, and flexible approach to the organization and the position;
  • Experience in foreign policy and peacebuilding;
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in WPS, US government  policy and/or advocacy;
  • Demonstrable interest in creating partnerships with other organizations, policymakers, and donors to advance conflict prevention;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail; and
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in an additional language is not required but will be viewed favorably.
  • Salary: This is a paid internship
