Job Description

Mandiant is looking for a Threat Intelligence Researcher to join our US Research Team. The Threat Intelligence Researcher will be part of the Mandiant Research team responsible for detecting and tracking cyber-driven influence operations and disinformation campaigns and authoring intelligence products; Research foreign-language online forums and blogs for discussion of illegal activities targeting, or potentially targeting Mandiant customers.

The successful candidate will need to possess fluency with the Persian (most importantly writing, reading and listening) and be able to apply a rigorous investigatory mindset to researching and conducting analysis on following responsibilities. The ideal candidate will possess a background in intelligence analysis or a similarly analytically rigorous discipline and will demonstrate a nuanced understanding of geopolitics, particularly as they pertain to middle east region. The role requires very strong writing skills and will involve the frequent production of intelligence reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Research Scientist/Engineer: Initiates the design, development, execution and implementation of research projects.
  • Plans and executes applied research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
  • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
  • Provide open source intelligence research reports, relying on sophisticated research methods and advanced reporting skills as well as the highest level of tradecraft and analytical rigor. 
  • Provide intelligence assessments of country-specific individuals and groups, applying principles and knowledge of organizational dynamics and group psychology.
  • Research foreign-language online forums and blogs for discussion of illegal activities targeting, or potentially targeting Mandiant customers.
  • Apply knowledge of organizational structure, human relations and research methods as well as analytic trade best practices to obtain information relevant to country-specific projects or issues.
  • Based on knowledge of culture, group dynamics, and human relations, identify new threat tools, techniques and procedures, and signatures used by cyber threat actors; develop methods for conducting all source research activities.
  • Provide open source intelligence reports in support of ongoing IR.
  • Execute on refined intelligence requirements for specific projects or issues.
  • Use knowledge, creativity and analytic tradecraft best practices to obtain information relevant to complex problems where data requires an evaluation of variable under conditions of uncertainty.
  • Identify new threat TTP and signatures used by cyber threat actors.

Qualifications
  • Strong foreign language skills in Persian/Farsi/Dari. Ability to express complex technical and non-technical concepts verbally, graphically and in writing. strong writing skills are mandatory. additional dialects are a plus.
  • —Ability to demonstrate comprehensive, practical knowledge of research and collection skills and analytical methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-outcomes oriented attitude.
  • Ability to participate and provide input during crisis situations
  • Self-starter with great personal initiatives
  • Understanding computer intrusions, malicious code, threat finance, money laundering/fraud/eCrime or other similar criminal activities.
  • Understand of technical skills areas such as digital forensics, media exploitations, computer forensics, internet forensics, etc
  • Undergraduate degree in intelligence studies, computer security studies, computer studies, or similar work experiences in areas of cyber threat intelligence, research and collections,
  • Apply rigorous analytic tradecraft to detect, investigate, track, and report on cyber-driven and social media-driven information operations.
  • Provide cogent threat intelligence analysis to a diverse array of internal teams in written and oral form.
  • Work closely with other Mandiant Threat Intelligence teams to advance and improve collection processes
  • Provide input and expertise to peers in the form of analytic reviews
  • Strong familiarity with geopolitical issues and political analysis, particularly pertaining to Middle East and South East Asia
  • Prior experience in intelligence analysis and/or cyber security strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment free from ego.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, with occasional same-day turnaround.
  • Ability to work with a team based in Reston, Virginia, during typical US working hours.

Minimum Salary: $95,000. Final salary will be determined commensurately with cost of living, experience level, and/or any other legally permissible considerations.  

Incentive Compensation: Eligibility for annual bonus subject to individual and company performance; eligibility for award of Restricted Stock Units subject to eligibility requirements, approval from FireEye’s Compensation Committee, and vesting terms
